In 1997 I ordered a one-year subscription to the San Diego Voice and Viewpoint Newspaper, a African-American Publication in the city of San Diego. I was blown away by the number of youth who were killed each week, murdered by another youth, abducted and found dead, or abandoned and left to die.. *What is happening God?* I asked. Then I came to realize each time a murder was committed there was a perpetrator walking away still lingering in our community possibly preparing to strike again. I realized the San Diego Police Department needed the concerned citizens assistance with information pertaining to an arrest of these criminals. I wanted to see these perpetrators taken off the streets and rehabilitate if possible, or placed in a place where they couldn't harm our youth again. These thoughts haunted me for weeks on end. I got on the phone and started calling around and began searching for a way to stop this problem. I knew I needed something that would increase the level of awareness and healing for the community, aid the Police Department in the gathering of vital information and/or tips in regards to unsolved crimes, tell the whereabouts of missing and exploited children, or crime solving information about the abandoned babies who were being found repeated. One goal of mine was to give those who had information about the slain youth to have an avenue available for them to tell someone without fear. My first suggested thought was via an anonymous information web site maintained and operated by Shaback Inc. That is when I came up with the idea of an Annual Memorial Christmas Fair honoring young people who were killed un-necessarily, abducted or missing and exploited, and remembering babies who have been found abandoned or unidentified. . At this event we not only remember and honor, we also provide gifts for underprivileged, saddened, and most neglected communities. In this we create and discover positive solutions within our community, promote unity in the community, and return the love back to where it was stolen from. I want to do whatever I can to see that our community is no longer killed, stolen from, or destroyed. |
